ITINERARY: Rom Tour Basic — Budapest return to Transylvania, Romania.

Day 1: Budapest–Cluj Napoca (Kolosvár)

We depart Budapest at 9.30am and have a relatively long drive across the border into Romania and on to the village of Mera on the outskirts of the beautiful old city of Cluj Napoca (also known as Kolosvár in Hungarian). After stopping for a meal and a walk by the river in the foothills of the mountains during our drive, we arrive in Mera in the evening for dinner. We will be greeted by our hosts, a local Rom musician family and enjoy a peaceful evening in the garden.

Accommodation: Family home, Mera

Day 2: Ceaus Music and Dance Camp

After breakfast with our hosts we move on to the Rom and Hungarian music & dance camp near Tirgu Mures, Transylvania. After lunch and settling in you can either participate in the dance and music teaching, or just soak up the atmosphere.

Accommodation: Family home, Ceaus

Days 3 & 4: Music and Dance Camp

Two full days of dance or music instruction. The teachers include locals from the village itself as well as professional dance teachers from Hungary. The musicians are all locals and all dance teaching is accompanied by live music. Talks will also be given during the day by your guide on the local Rom customs, culture and costume. If tour participants do not wish to attend the classes offered during the day, it is worth walking through the town and surrounds as well as watching classes or stopping in the pub to hear some fantastic music!

Classes are all held in Hungarian and Romany, with translations given by your guide.

Accommodation: Family home, Ceaus

Day 5: Cluj Napoca–Palatka (Magyarpalatka)

After breakfast we head back towards Budapest stopping in the beautiful city of Cluj Napoca. Here we will have lunch and check into a hotel for a nice hot shower and a short rest. After lunch we take a short drive through the valleys and hidden villages to the village of Palatka. After arriving at our hosts' house (local Rom musicians) we will hear all about the music, dance and traditions of the area, whilst enjoying a refreshing drink under the trees in the orchard. We then enjoy a home cooked meal with the village band and some live music in the garden overlooking the village. When we are ready we will return to the hotel for the night.

Accommodation: Hotel Siesta, Cluj Napoca.

Day 6: Kalotaszentkiraly

Continuing on our way back to Budapest in the morning we drive on to the small Hungarian village of Kalotaszentkiraly, still in Transylvania, Romania.
